Katie and Geffen’s Beautiful Summer Wedding at Apton Hall in Essex

There are some wedding days where everything seems to come together, and Katie and Geffen’s summer wedding at Apton Hall was definitely one of them. Beautiful weather, a stunning outdoor ceremony, a brilliant group of family and friends and an evening packed with energy made this such an enjoyable wedding to film.
Katie and Geffen were married on 26th July 2026 at Apton Hall in Rochford, Essex. I’ve filmed at Apton Hall many times over the years, and it remains one of my favourite Essex wedding venues. In the middle of summer, with the gardens full of colour and the red brick buildings surrounded by greenery, it really does look fantastic on camera.
A Summer Wedding at Apton Hall
One of the things I love about filming weddings at Apton Hall is the amount of variety you get without ever needing to travel far.
The characterful red brick buildings, courtyard, gardens and surrounding countryside give you completely different looks throughout the day. In Katie and Geffen’s film you can really see how beautiful the venue looked in late July, with the climbing greenery covering parts of the brickwork, roses in bloom and the gardens looking full and established.
Even the drier summer grass gave the grounds a lovely warm colour that worked beautifully against the navy suits, soft green bridesmaid dresses and Katie’s white wedding dress.
The weather was on our side too. The sun was out for much of the day, which meant Katie and Geffen were able to have the outdoor wedding they had planned.
Getting Ready for the Big Day
The morning was relaxed and full of anticipation as everyone got ready.
Katie looked absolutely stunning. Her wedding dress was simple, elegant and incredibly stylish, with an off the shoulder design that looked beautiful on camera. The bridesmaids wore soft sage green dresses, complemented by bouquets filled with pinks, creams, greenery and touches of orange.
It all worked perfectly with the natural colours around Apton Hall.
Geffen and the guys looked equally sharp in navy suits with light ties. There was plenty of laughter as everyone got ready and waited for the celebrations to begin.
These parts of the day are always important to me as a wedding videographer. The big moments are obviously essential, but it is often the smaller interactions between friends and family that really give a wedding film its personality.
A Beautiful Outdoor Ceremony
Katie and Geffen chose to hold their ceremony outside in Apton Hall’s courtyard, surrounded by their closest friends and family.
Their ceremony incorporated Jewish traditions beneath the chuppah and brought both families together for what felt like a really personal celebration.
It was a beautiful setting. The warm brick buildings surrounding the courtyard gave the ceremony a lovely intimate feel, while still allowing everyone to enjoy the summer weather.
And then came the confetti.
Katie and Geffen walked through a huge shower of white confetti with enormous smiles on their faces. It is one of those moments that lasts only seconds on the actual wedding day but looks fantastic when captured on film.
Family, Friends and a Very Cool Wedding Car
After the ceremony there was time for everyone to relax, grab a drink and enjoy the grounds.
One thing that really comes across when looking through this wedding is just how close Katie and Geffen are to their families and friends. There are smiles everywhere.
We captured the wedding party together in Apton Hall’s gardens, surrounded by roses, greenery and that fantastic red brick backdrop. There were also plenty of lovely family moments throughout the afternoon.
And there was another star of the show.
The beautiful cream vintage convertible wedding car looked absolutely perfect at Apton Hall. Naturally, we had to make the most of it for a few shots with Katie and Geffen.
It also produced one of the funniest and cutest moments of the day when one of the younger guests decided to take the driver's seat. Thankfully, I don't think anyone handed her the keys.
Some Serious Energy on the Dance Floor
Then things got lively.
The traditional dancing was easily one of the biggest highlights of Katie and Geffen’s wedding.
Once everyone got involved, the energy went through the roof. Katie and Geffen were lifted into the air while friends and family surrounded them, dancing, clapping and celebrating.
From a filmmaking point of view, I absolutely love capturing moments like these.
There is no directing involved. You are right in the middle of everything, moving with the crowd and trying to capture the faces, laughter and atmosphere as it unfolds around you.
Some of my favourite shots from the entire film came from these sequences simply because everyone was having such a good time.
There was another fantastic moment when Katie and Geffen made their entrance into the wedding breakfast, with guests creating a tunnel and waving handkerchiefs above them as they came through.
Katie's expression says everything about the atmosphere.

Golden Hour Around Apton Hall
Later in the day, things slowed down for a little while.
I took Katie and Geffen for a walk around Apton Hall's grounds so they could have some time together away from the main celebrations.
I always try to make these parts of the day feel as relaxed as possible. I don't want couples feeling like they're on a film set or spending ages being directed into different poses. Usually, it is simply about finding beautiful light, giving them a little space and capturing what happens naturally.
For Katie and Geffen, the timing couldn't have been much better.
As the sun started getting lower, we were treated to some beautiful warm light across the grounds. The gardens and countryside around Apton Hall gave us some gorgeous backgrounds and the softer evening light allowed us to create some of the more cinematic moments in their wedding film.
As the sky became more dramatic later in the evening, we also captured a fantastic silhouette of Katie and Geffen together against the fading light.
It's completely different from the bright, colourful footage earlier in the day and one of my favourite shots from the film.
After dinner, speeches and celebrations, it was time for the evening party.
Katie and Geffen shared their first dance surrounded by family and friends before the live band helped get everyone back onto the dance floor.
By this point, ties were loosened, jackets were disappearing and everyone was ready to enjoy themselves.
It was exactly the sort of ending this wedding deserved.

Filming Weddings at Apton Hall in Essex
Having filmed many weddings at Apton Hall over the years, it is a venue I know extremely well.
That experience is really useful on a wedding day because I already know where the light tends to work, where we can take a couple without disappearing for ages, and how different parts of the venue change as the sun moves throughout the day.
But every wedding here still looks and feels different.
Katie and Geffen’s wedding had its own personality from beginning to end. There was elegance and tradition, but there was also a huge amount of laughter and energy. The beautiful styling and summer surroundings gave us the cinematic side of the film, while their friends and family provided all the personality.
For me, that's exactly the balance I want from a wedding film.
I want it to look beautiful, but I also want it to feel like the people who were actually there.
